Frequently Asked Questions

Credit Questions:

What exactly is a Lab Credit?

  • One credit = one 75-minute session for one child. You choose how to spend it each week: a STEAM Lab (guided experiments and projects) or an Open Maker Session (your child builds their own ideas with real tools and an instructor nearby ready to provide guidance and instructions). Same credit, your choice.

When does credit arrive to my account?

  • The credits will be arriving at your account the day you will be billed for the upcoming month.

Are the credits transferrable?

  • No.

What if we miss a week — do we lose the credit?

  • No. Credits are valid for 6 weeks from date they're issued, so a sick day, vacation, or soccer conflict never costs you a lab. Book a make-up session anytime within the window.

Booking Questions:

If I sign up to be a member now, when will I be able to book the first lab?

  • Right now we are in summer camp mode and the first labs will be offered on Friday August 14th . When you enroll, you will be charged at that time but your next billing will be on September 14th so you are actually paying for August.14th - Sept.14th. We will pause your membership on the backend to make sure you won't be over-charged.

How do we book our labs?

  • Through our online booking system BOOKEO — reserve your child's spot in any upcoming lab with open seats, right from your phone. Members see member pricing and existing credits automatically once signed in.  You can manage your membership, view existing bookings and create new bookings in our member area at https://bookeo.com/steamlabskids/customer

Can I book two sessions back to back?

  • Yes you can! We will intentionally make sure content of same day's sessions differ so that some children can decide to stay for multiple sessions. That will allow parents to take care other important things when kids are at the lab. The only thing to know that, in between sessions, there will be a 15 minutes break/reset for staff. During that time, children will be asked to do quiet activities like reading or playing board games while waiting.

What if a lab we booked gets canceled?

  • If we ever cancel a session for any reason, your credit is returned automatically. Popular time slots can fill, so we recommend booking your preferred weekly slot in advance — Inventor members get first access when new schedules open.

Membership Questions:

What level of membership should I get for my child?

  • If you already know your child loves STEM and hands-on activities, we suggest Inventor Membership to allow him/she to come to the lab twice a week or once but for two labs in a row. It's greatly beneficial to have constant exposure and to some children, extended lab time help unless their creativity and focus as they can spend enough time on one project.
  • Based on what we heard from families we served, even after 7 hours of camp, some kids asked parents to pick up late so they can spend more time to build and be creative.
  • Inventor Membership is also the best value.
  • if you are not sure if your child's preference on STEM yet, and want to try it out, then Maker Membership is a great start. That will give them 75 mins of lab session each week.

Can siblings share a membership?

  • Inventor Membership credits are fully shareable among siblings in the same household — split 8 credits 4/4, 6/2, or however your month works. Maker Membership credits are for one enrolled child.

Is there a contract or minimum commitment?

  • No long-term contract. Memberships renew monthly, and you can cancel anytime with 30 days' notice. If you want to join again, an Enrollment Fee of $100 will need to be paid again.

Can we pause instead of canceling?

  • Yes — you can pause your membership once per year for up to 3 months. And memberships automatically pause during our summer camp months and it won't count towards your pause, so you're never paying for weekly labs while camp season is running.

What happens over the summer?

  • Weekly labs pause while summer camps run — and so does your billing, automatically. Members keep their 15% camp discount all summer, then labs (and billing) resume in fall.

Can we try before committing?

  • Yes — book a single lab a la carte first.

When will I be charged?

  • Your card is charged when you join and on the same date each month after.

Lab Questions:

What exactly is a STEAM lab?

  • Think of a hands-on session. Either we will explore one science concept or rule using a hands-on experiment. For example, we will explain what is DNA with the experiment of extracting DNA from strawberries 🍓. or the session will be about making something with a prompt and instructor guidance and support, for example 'let's use card board and strings to make a robotic hand 🦾 today!'.

Will my child do the same activities multiple times?

  • No. We bring fresh content on a weekly basis, with brand new projects and experiments. This ensures ongoing skill-building and keeps kids excited about coming back. We might repeat certain classic and popular activities back as add-on but not in the main curriculum.

Bring-a-Friend Pass Questions:

What's the Bring-a-Friend Pass?

  • Every month, your child can bring a friend to one lab, free for your child and their friend — because discoveries are better shared. Guest spots are booked in advance and subject to open seats, so our small-group ratio always holds. The parent of the friend will need to register the child in our system.

How often my child can bring the same friend using the Bring-a-Friend Pass?

  • In general, we hope to have more children experience our labs to feel inspired. But we also understand children want to share positive experience with their good friends. So we would encourage the same child using the pass only once in six months.

Classes Questions:

How big are the classes?

  • 15 max and small on purpose. We keep a low student-to-instructor ratio so every child gets real, individual attention — our instructors know your kid by name, not just by roster.

Do we need to bring anything?

  • Just your kid and their curiosity. All materials, tools, and safety equipment are included in every session.
  • If you want, you could bring a water bottle.

What ages is this for?

  • Our recommendation is for ages 5–12 but it's just a recommendation and kids develop at a different pace. If your child falls out of the range by a little and you think they will enjoy, give it a try! We will work closely with your family and discuss the outcome with you individually to ensure it's suitable.
  • Activities are adapted by age and skill level within each session.
